Dirty Carpets

Dirty carpets impact your life more than just looking bad. The average carpet can accumulate more than 40 pounds of dirt per year. Carpets can hold up to 4 times their weight in dirt! Carpet dust also accumulates from walking, skin particles, pet hair, dander, dead skin cells, insect husks and insect feces. This all becomes carpet dust, and thousands of dust mites can survive in just 1 ounce of carpet dust. In addition, dust can attract bacteria and mold.

With what we are all facing today, it's important to keep clean the inside of your Home from what you may be bringing in from outside your Home.

Health Problems

Dirty carpets can cause several health problems.

Respiratory Problems

Molds live in dirty carpets. Molds cause flu-like symptoms especially when inhaled. This can also trigger an asthma attack. Both molds and carpet dusts attract bacteria. Dust mites living in carpet can cause nose irritation, rash, and eye irritation.

Skin Problems

Mold and bacteria living in your carpet can also cause many skin problems. As you walk around your carpet, these enter the body via cuts, openings, even skin pores. Dirty carpets can cause (and spread as infected walk on carpets) athletes foot and ringworm. Continuous traffic contributes to build ups of fungi and dirt. This can cause Rhinitis and Eczema.

Other issues

Dirty carpets also weaken your immune system. The germs and bacteria in your carpets keeps constant stress on your body. This stresses your immune system and makes you more susceptible to disease. Mycotoxins are another concern. These are made up of types of mold that live deep in the fibers of your carpet. These weaken your immune system, cause stomach flu-like symptoms, and can even be deadly. Germs can trigger allergies and cause respiratory diseases. Norovirus is caused by dirt and buildup in carpets. This appears like food poisoning. Norovirus can live up to 6 weeks in your carpet and becomes airborne as you walk.

Dirt Damages Your Carpet

Dirty carpet wears out faster. The dirt and dust accumulates deep within the fibers of the carpet. This will cut the carpet fibers and cause the carpet to get flat over time. Keeping this dirt removed helps the carpet last much longer and stay fluffier.

Cleaning

The number one thing you can do to help keep your carpet clean is vacuum. Most vacuums only pull up surface dirt. A really good vacuum will suck more dirt from deep within the carpet fibers. You should vacuum a minimum of once a week but in highly trafficked areas, 2-3 times a week may be needed. Running an automated daily robotic vacuum on schedule is another good method to remove surface dirt. However, these devices cannot get any deep dirt under the carpet and should not be a substitute for a good weekly carpet vacuum. Ideally, to keep dust and debris out of the air while vacuuming, you want a vacuum with a good HEPA filter.

Vacuuming Not Enough

While good vacuuming practices help your carpet last longer and keep out surface dirt, it's still not enough to keep your carpet clean and sanitary for you and your family. Professional cleaning should be done a minimum of yearly and perhaps more often on more heavily trafficked carpet. Our professional carpet cleaning will remove the deep bacteria, mold, and dirt from your carpet. A professionally cleaned carpet will be much safer for you and your family as well as visually appealing. Your carpet will last longer and look new each time it's cleaned.
